Winter Ballad of Minnesota (four poems) (Now in Spanish and English)

1) Tone Minnesota

There are the woods, where he trampled on time -

This is Minnesota, where the wind here and talk

Remove the old rivers, where the virgin forest

It nourishes the autumn leaves and roots in winter ...

The land of many lakes where the sky is crying,

Yell the size of last year:

Reflect the green of the forest wild paradise.

The pioneers, the seeds that are brought to life ...;

... This is where the deer and elk havefed,

In cases where houses were built by huge men.

Where there are many tribes of Indians were in power.

Here the records of a state unborn ...

fought for the people whose fate and dreams?

Who has their own destiny, the Minnesotans,

Their character is counted great! ...

2) The Old Heath

(Winter Minnesota)

Winter seems more nostalgic

Now I'm older and gray;

But I always liked the fire

Heather (atfireplace).

Flames flicker, doors groan

Windows rattle,

And hot: hot old bones,

Heath (a warm fireplace).

I love the lights of the heath

The spell in the room

I always seem to drift a bit '

In the fireplace of the room.

Winter seems more nostalgic

Flames flicker, doors groan

I love the lights of the heath

Now I'm older! ...

Listen to the voice of the birds flicker

Down south! ...

Boy! It 'great to hear comin' from

Winter balladry of Minnesota (four poems)(Now in Spanish and English)

1) Tone of Minnesota

There are the woods, where time has treaded--

This is Minnesota, here where the winds talk and

Rise on the ancient rivers; where the virgin woods

Nurtures the autumn leaves and winter roots...

The land of many lakes where the skies shout,

Yell the greatness of the passing years:

Reflect the green of the wood's wild paradise.

The pioneers, the seeds that brought life here...;

...here, is where the deer and elk have fed,

Where huge log cabins, were build by men.

Where there were many tribes of ruling Indians.

Here came the annals of an unborn state...

Whose peoples fought for destinies and dreams?

Who made their fate; the Minnesotans,

Their character now reckoned, great!...

2) The Old Heath

(Minnesota Winter)

Winter seems to me more nostalgic

Now that I'm aging with gray;

But I always liked the fire

Of a heath (a warm fireplace).

Flames that flicker, doors that groan

Windows that rattle,

And warm: warm old bones,

Of a Heath (a warm fireplace).

I like the gleam of the heath

The spell, upon the room,

I always seem to drift a little

By the fireplace of the room.

Winter seems to me more nostalgic

Flames that flicker, doors that groan

I like the gleam of the heath

Now that I'm growing old!...

3) Comin' O' Winter

(In Minnesota)

Lord! It's good to feel the comin ' o' winter

Not Spring!

To vision the furrows of snow drifting

Around my cold, cold feet!

See the winter's harsh banks start to

Grow, grow, grow...

Hear the flicker of the birds heading

Down south!...

Boy! It's great to feel the comin' of

Winter... not Spring!

(Because I won't be here! I'll be

Down south, where it's warm!!)

4) Th' Ol Mississippi

(A Minnesota Poem)

That's th' ol Mississippi River--

Ripplin', dimplin' down Minnesota.

Down south she's kind of muddy,

But up here she's like a Queen!

Wanting to play a moody scene!

Peaceful now she looks; boilin'

She can be...

And that's why I live in St. Paul

Where she's thin and her wit

Is a bit lean...!

But she's wise and she fool' us

Now and then...up around the

--ol' Minnesota bends.

Poemas De invierno

Los pioneros, las semillas que trajeron la vida aquí...;

Ahora que envejezco con el color gris;

Pero siempre me gustaba el fuego

De un brezal (una chimenea caliente).

Las llamas que parpadean, puertas que gimen

Ventanas que repiquetean,

Y calientes: calientes huesos viejos,

Crecer, crecer, crecer...

Oír el aleteo de los pájaros dirigiéndose

Abajo al sur!...

¡Muchacho! ¡Es agradable sentir la llegada del

Invierno... no la Primavera!

(¡Por que no estaré aquí! ¡Estaré

Abajo en el sur, dónde es caliente!)

*936 12/1/05

4) El viejo Mississippi

(Un Poema de Minnesota)

Este es el viejo Río Mississippi -

"Ondulando, turbio" bajo Minnesota.

-viejo Minnesota encurvado.
