Rest - How Long Between Sets?

Body Weight training, doing workouts without weights has become a very popular and easy home exercise program. Many have found that strength training without weights at home is great for increasing muscular endurance, power and muscle growth.

Understanding all the different training factors is really important. When you have a good understanding of things like workout intensity, appropriate number of sets/reps, specific exercise movements, and speed that you perform the movements, your training routine will be efficient and effective.

Many don't fully understand that the amount of rest between exercise sets can really effect your body's response to your exercise program. Medical and scientific studies have shown how important your rest between sets can be. Depending on your fitness objectives, a longer or shorter rest between sets may be desirable.

If you aren't lifting or working out heavily, a longer rest between sets let people actually do more repetitions with several sets. This allows for increased endurance. Also, longer rests allowed for increased strength in the long run because people were able to actually train for longer periods of time.

However, for those who are just starting out, it was found that rest periods of up to 1 minute when lifting heavy, produced greater muscle hypertrophy and muscle growth. This may be due to the fact that growth hormone levels increased with the shorter rest periods. This is an important psychological boost to those who may be just starting out as quick visual gains will act as positive re-inforcement to continue with their exercise program.

In summary, in order to optimize your workouts without weights, or regular gym exercise routine, it's important to more fully understand the importance of the rest between exercise sets. Longer rests between sets have been shown to provide greater endurance and strength gains in the long run. Shorter rest durations between sets have been shown to increase muscle hypertrophy, especially in the beginner weight lifter.

The best approach should probably incorporate both longer and shorter rest periods between exercises. One suggestion would be to have shorter rests on those exercises where you are actually trying to bulk up and longer rests periods in those areas where strength and endurance are the primary objectives.

Este es el viejo Río Mississippi -

"Ondulando, turbio" bajo Minnesota.

¡Sur abajo ella es algo fangosa,

Pero aquí arriba ella parece una Reina!

¡Deseando jugar una escena caprichosa!

Ahora pacíficamente bella; "hirviendo"

Ella puede estar...

¡Y es por eso que vivo en Saint Paul

Dónde ella es clara y su ingenio

Es poco difícil...!

Pero ella es sabia y ella nos engaña

Ahora y entonces...arriba alrededor del

"La grosera oligarquía no utilizará a los soldados contra el pueblo en la Patria de Simón Bolívar", así afirmó este lunes 13 de abril en el marco de la conmemoración del Día del Rescate de la Dignidad Nacional, el Comandante Hugo Chávez, a su llegada al Balcón del Pueblo, lugar en el que miles de venezolanos están concentrados para celebrar junto a él, el renacer que tuvo la Revolución Bolivariana hace siete años. "Todas las victorias que obtendremos estarán dedicadas a nuestros hijos, nuestros nietos, porque de ellos es la Patria segura", expresó el líder de la Revolución Bolivariana, recordando aquella victoria. En cadena nacional de radio y televisión, el Presidente Chávez reiteró que Venezuela va rumbo a ser una gran potencia mundial. "Ahora que somos libres, Ahora cuando nos hemos liberado de las garras del imperialismo, cuando nos hemos liberado de la grosera oligarquía, es que podemos decir que convertiremos a nuestro país en una potencia del continente", resaltó. Asimismo, recalcó que hasta hoy, a Venezuela la crisis mundial no la ha tocado "un pelo", gracias, entre otras cosas, a la Revolución Bolivariana. Sin embargo, el presidente Chávez indicó que la gran crisis mundial del capitalismo sigue expandiéndose. "Nadie sabe ni puede predecir cuánto tiempo durará esa gran crisis". A medida que las hermanas sean una guía en su hogar, en su familia y en la Iglesia, ocurrirán milagros y los ángeles serán sus compañeros. A cada hermana se le pidió que ayudara a activar a otra hermana que actualmente no esté asistiendo a las reuniones para renovar los convenios que hizo cuando se bautizó. Empiecen pidiendo al Señor que las inspire con ideas sobre cómo ayudar a sus amigas. Al orar con fer eciben más ideas de cómo ayudar. Visite a su amiga, invítela a regresar, ámela y llévela con usted a la reunión sacramental. El presidente Henry B. Eyring nos enseñó recientemente que las hermanas de la Sociedad de Socorro aceptan su asignación de visitar a otra como un llamamiento del Señor. El éxito será algo más que traspasar el umbral de una puerta, más que comunicar el mensaje; será más que preguntar en qué pueden prestar ayuda.
